Twilight at Every Age

I am one of the many women that love the Twilight book series, how can you not love them! One night my client  was telling me about her love life, because everyone vents about their love life at the salon. Anyways, she was hopelessly in love with a man who sadly lives far away (we will call him Bob), so to keep her company here she has a best friend who just happens to be a man(we will call him Joe). Joe has admitted to her that he has feelings for her. She felt horrible telling him that she loves him too, but she loves "Bob" more. So in the middle of her telling me all of this I said " Oh my gosh you are Bella!" and her eyes got huge and it was like the light went on and she was like "I am!". The rest of the appointment she refereed to the men as Jake and Edward. I found it very entertaining :)

You Sure Your ok?

Well this last week at the salon my clients  didn't have any exciting stories... but a girl I work with had an interesting client. So this lady walks into the salon to get her hair cut. Her hairdresser was finishing up another client so I started visiting with her while she waited. She was pregnant and I asked her when she was due. Her answer, " Oh well I'm already in Labor but it will be awhile, the contractions are like 15 minutes apart." Well that caught me off guard a little and it was hard to start the conversation back up. She said she was at the salon cause she wanted to look nice when she went to the hospital.... yeah I think that lady was a crazy.I'm glad I didn't have to stay and worry about her! Thankfully she did not give birth at the salon.

Where did you say you are from?

Strange as it may be I've had quite a few clients come in that are from over seas, mainly here to attend the university. I've had 3 from France, one from Holland, and one from England. The 2 newest Foreigners came in the other day, I'll tell you the story.
Yesterday 2 guys came into the salon, one had a hair cut booked with me. He had a very thick accent, and you could tell he was still trying to learn English. Come to find out he was from Saudi Arabia...his answer threw me way off guard!  First question I ask after that.." Why did you come all the way over to America and choose this small, kinda boring at times, town to stay in?" His answer way school, although it took about five minutes for me to figure out what he was saying. Anyways is was quite fun talking to him, or the parts of the conversation I understood were good. He even is going to come back in again! Best part of the story, that was the longest conversation I've had with a male client and he barley spoke English.

A Real Hippies Story

So this story is from a couple weeks ago, but its one that I don't think I will ever forget. A new client came in she was in her early 60's, real sweetheart. We started sharing stories and she started telling me about how when she was young and living in the LA area long straight hair was the thing to have. She use to roll her whole head in orange juice cans and sit under the dryer for HOURS at night and the next morning she would iron her hair... with and iron that you use on clothes. I was laughing and joking that she should have just let her hair stay wavy like a hippie... then she told me she was one. She said she was the typical hippie, long wavy hair with feathers and beads she would place in the front. Her friend even photographed her for a magazine back in the day. So I stared asking her about her hippie days, in one story she even told me she tried to hitch hike to Woodstock , got half way across the country then ran out of money and had to turn around. Her stories of her early 20's were amazing! Betty even lived in Mexico for a while... she said not to do that now but back then it was a wild adventure. She quite her job after she got paid and her and her best friend backpacked all over Mexico. She even met her true love there, who ended up being her bosses son. They had a fabulous marriage! Betty now days isn't like her old hippie self, actually if you saw her you would never guess those were her stories, but Betty is now one of my favorite clients. I have a feeling I will hear a lot more stories from her past.

Job Description

Wikipedia's description of a hairdressers is:    A hairdresser or hairstylist is a universal term referring to someone whose occupation is to cut or style hair in order to change or maintain a person's image.
What they forgot to include is that we are also that persons personal life coach, therapist, friend, or confidante for their appointment. When a client sits down at your chair you become an instant friend... well in most cases. Within the first few minutes a hairdresser can make a person trust them even if they have never met before. After the client has your trust some feel like they can relax and vent about their life without being judged. I love listening to people and their stories. I've had some amazing people come into my salon and they surprisingly have taught me a lot about life. This blog is to share some stories that are too good to keep to myself. Of course the names and such will be changed because,  well for obvious reasons. So all of the girls will be Betty and all of the guys will be Bill and the town I work in will be Tiny Town.

welcome to my life... well work life

This will be the fist blog post I've ever made. After this last week at work I needed to share all the crazy stories from the salon, the best way to do so I discovered is by blogging. Hopefully you will enjoy these stories as much as I do. I can't believe some of the things I hear. Hope you enjoy!
